EW Combi Electrolytic Weld Cleaner

EW Combi Electrolytic Weld Cleaner

Remove Tig Weld Blueing and Discolouration with the EW-Combi Weld Cleaner

The Electrowand EW-Combi weld cleaning machines remove weld discolouration and blueing to leave a clean bright finish on stainless steel tig welds. The EW-Combi gives the option of both a brush or the more traditional pads.

The Weld Cleaning Process

Clamp earth clamp to the stainless steel.  Dip the carbon filament brush in the low strength acid solution. Appy the brush to the affected area and the solution allows an electrical current to cross through the tig weld which cleans and removes any contaminants from the affected area.

What is in the EW-Combi Weld Cleaner Kit?

Each kit comes complete with power leads, 2 cable leads (one for brushes and one for the pads), earth lead, spill proof container, 500ml acid, 500ml neutraliser, 2 brushes and 1 pack of 20 pads.

What if I have had to put too much heat into my weld?

That is no problem with the EW-Combi. Simply up the electrical current going through the acid allowing a more aggressive action.

Note: we recommend that in normal operation the current is kept low enough to prevent continuous 'sparking' but it is perfectly safe to increase the current across the weld if you need to remove heavy weld burn on the stainless steel.

How long will the carbon filament brushes last?

As always - that depends. The higher the electrical current used the faster the weld discolouration is removed but also the faster the brushes wear out. In our experience, when the current is set right brushes can last between 20 and 30 hours.

What is the neutraliser for?

As the EW-Combi uses a low strength acid it is possible to flush the area with water however if any remnant acid is left on the workpiece it can continue to act on the metal and leave a shadow. The neutraliser prevents this problem.

You supply pads and brushes for the EW-Combi.  Why?

When we first developed the Electrowand weld cleaning machines pads were the only effective option.  They still work perfectly well and as many of our customers like this system we like to give you the option.

We recommend and prefer the filament brush option simply because it gives better access in very tight corners and reduces the amount of acid used.

But as the EW-Combi uses a chemical process to clean the welds there is no difference in the process speed beween pads and brushes.
