Abrasive materials mounted on a paper carrier are used in almost every industry sector. Although the main application of sandpaper is without a doubt in the wood-processing industry, it is also frequently used in car repair workshops, as well as for work with metal, plastic, leather and stone.

Made-to-measure

All types of high-quality abrasive materials on paper carriers can be supplied by Cibo in most current cutting shapes, as well as in various sizes for belts, sheets and rolls. But Cibo would not be Cibo if it did not provide its customers with exclusive and tailor-made shapes and sizes!

Large Diameter Abrasive Discs

We make to order a whole range of large diameter discs with 3 different backing types.  Plain, with a self adhesive backing or with a grip (Velcro type) backing.

Common disc sizes made include:  200mm, 300mm, 350mm, 600mm, 760mm and 915mm

The right choice

Choosing which abrasive to use depends on several factors:

• The material you are working on   • The desired end result

• Carrier                                       • Grain type

• Grain coverage                           • Additives

• Diameter and processing speeds     • Pressure

• Hardness of abrasive contact         • Processing possibilities

• Machines used                             • Etc.

Abrasive Paper Product Grit Types

Abrasive paper products are available with three different abrasive grit types:

1. Aluminium Oxide -

2. Silicon Carbide grit -

3. Zirconium Oxide grit -

Abrasives Paper Backing Types

Abrasive backing papers are defined according to their weight.  The lightest backing is an A weight and the heaviest commonly available is F weight.  If you consider and A weight to be similar to a strong office paper and an F weight paper to be similar to stiff board then you won’t go far wrong.  Additionally we also have a film backed papers which take paper products on to a new generation as they give a higher cut and life than paper backed products.

Secondly we can supply the abrasive papers with a plain backing for use in belts or discs or we can put a self adhesive backing or a grip (Velcro type) backing onto the papers for use in discs or sheets.

The abrasive backing papers have a significant impact on the overall performance of abrasives.  A lighter weight backing will soften the abrasive action whereas a heavier backing will obviously increase aggression.  Consequently lighter weight abrasive paper tends to be used most commonly in hand applications and on lighter machines such as orbital sanders or DA sanders.  If you are looking to sand wood or grain metal on a wide belt sander than our KP949 F weight abrasive papers or our KP950 F weight zirconium papers will give a great life and stand up to the rigours of the application very well.

For paints and lacquer sanding on discs then cloth backed discs are not necessary.  The perfect product to use is our SA330 Velcro backed abrasive discs which have a new stearate coating which gives them a long life with significantly reduced risk of clogging up.

Key Product Areas for Abrasive Papers

Abrasive Belts - mainly used in woodworking applications but also on large through feed sanders fro sheet metal finishing

DA Sander discs - normally up to 6” or occasionally 8” diameter discs.  Good quality DA discs are now almost entirely supplied with a grip backing due to the increased performance benefits.

Large Diameter discs - We make to order a whole range of large diameter discs with 3 different backing types.  Plain, with a self adhesive backing or with a grip (Velcro type) backing.

Common disc sizes made include:  200mm, 300mm, 350mm, 600mm, 760mm and 915mm

Paper Sheets - We can make paper sheets in any size or shape and like the large diameter discs they are available with a plain backing, a self adhesive / psa backing or most commonly with a grip or Velcro backing.
