Fibre Discs
Abrasive fibre discs are often called sanding discs or sanding pads
Structure
Fibre discs consist of a vulcanised fibre backing, normally with a thickness of 0.8 mm upon which two layers of synthetic resin are used as a binding agent to hold the abrasive grit.
Grit
Pressure
Working at high pressure with fibre discs is not recommended as this will lead to excessive heat generation and discolouration.
Sanding in a forwards and backwards motion reduces the risk of discolouration
Cutting Speed
The optimum speed will vary dependant on the material to be finished. The maximum recommended speed for most discs is 60 m/sec.
